2010 HALTER MANIA AT THE YEARLING SALE

The Texas Quarter Horse Association Yearling Sale will make history by hosting the first ever TQHA halter class specifically for race sale yearlings on Thursday, July 29! While not pointed, the halter class will receive special achievement recognition from the American Quarter Horse Association with horses having their achievement in these special halter classes recorded by AQHA.

These halter classes will be an avenue for consignors to showcase their yearlings to potential buyers while gaining recognition on the horse’s AQHA record and receiving a specially designed certificate by AQHA for their accomplishment.

Points will not be awarded for the class because existing AQHA halter rules are being slightly modified to accommodate and test the interest this special competition among people who are looking for well-conformed yearling race horses..

“Texas Quarter Horse Association approached us with a unique request that the AQHA Show Council wanted to support in some way,” said Charlie Hemphill AQHA Sr. Director of Shows & New Events. “Many racehorses have excellent conformation underscoring the concept of form to function. With that in mind, we wanted to come up with a way to gauge the interest in such a creative halter class. We have recognized accomplishments in other disciplines or events for decades and felt this was a way to support TQHA, the racing industry and investigating a possible new event.”

Viewers of the class will also get to participate in a fun judging contest.

TQHA HALTER MANIA CLASSES: *HORSES MUST BE CONSIGNED TO THE 2010 TQHA YEARLING SALE TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR THE FOLLOWING CLASSES:

• Yearling Stallions
• Yearling Mares
• Yearling Geldings
• Yearling Grand Champion

GENERAL RULES FOR TQHA HALTER MANIA 2010: APPROPRIATE WESTERN ATTIRE

• Jeans
• Long sleeve shirt with collar
• Western hat
• Cowboy or western boots

EQUIPMENT RULES

• A chain shank is acceptable (but not required). May be used under the chin or
  over the nose in all sex divisions.
• Chains through the mouth, over the gums/lips are not permitted.
• A Chifney bit, such as those used at sales/at racetracks are permitted.

HANDLERS

• All handlers showing horses must be individual AQHA members in good standing and must present membership card to show management at time of entry. Memberships may also be purchased from management at the show.
• AN EXHIBITOR MAY SHOW MULTIPLE HORSES PER CLASS IF NUMBER OF HEATS ALLOW (to be determined on # of entries). IF HORSE QUALIFIES FOR FINAL EVALUATION, HANDLER MAY DESIGNATE ANOTHER ‘QUALIFIED HANDLER’ TO LEAD HORSE IN RING. HIP # MUST MATCH HANDLER/EXIBITOR BACK #.
• Exhibitors will be showing in the open division and should be aware that one’s amateur or youth status with AQHA may be affected by showing a horse in a halter class, which is not owned solely by the exhibitor or an immediate family member.
