GENUINE has been named the 2005 Champion Accredited Texas
Bred Two Year Old Filly. This Mr Jess Perry filly showed talent early
in the year for breeder and owner Bobby D. Cox. She turned in an impressive
performance in the Grade I Retama Park Futurity winning by a half length
over a tough field of freshmen runners and earning her highest speed
index of the year with a 102. The John Buchanan trainee then went on
to run a well placed second in the Grade I Sam Houston Futurity against
top runner All American Winner. The graded stakes winner ended the
year with 7 starts, 4 wins (1 stakes) and 3 seconds (1 stakes) and
$195,175 for her efforts all while staying and running solely in Texas.
TQHA
Sale Graduate SILVER GOL has earned the title as the
2005 Champion Accredited Texas Bred Two Year Old Gelding. Owners Gary
Hartstack and B & B Electric purchased the Texas Bred from the 2004
TQHA Yearling Sale for $16,000. Starting the year off with authority
Silver Gol won the Grade II Manor Downs Futurity for conditioner Leon
Bard. He was one of the stallion Gol’s big runners in 2005 and
went on to win the Restricted Grade I TQHA Sale Futurity with ease and
then qualified for the Grade I Sam Houston Futurity. The gray gelding
now has over $276,000 in his bank account with 9 starts, 7 wins (2 stakes)
and 2 seconds.
PYC
PAINT YOUR WAGON has received the honor as Accredited Texas
Bred Champion Two Year Old Colt. The phenomenal Corona Cartel runner
made a name for himself early winning the Lazy E Futurity in April.
He then ventured to the “mountain” to run second in the
Grade 1 Rainbow Futurity against the top two year old runner Leading
Spirit. The Michael A. Pohl homebred then ended his freshmen campaign
in excellent fashion winning the million dollar Grade I Texas Classic
Futurity and earned $434,479 bringing his combined earnings to over
$604,000 in just 8 starts. The Accredited Texas Bred was trained by
legendary trainer Jack Brooks.
The
2005 Accredited Texas Bred Champion Three Year Old Filly honors go to SI
PUEDE. Lukin Gilliland’s homebred started her freshmen
campaign slowly but returned for her sophomore campaign with authority
by being a multiple derby winner and a multiple stakes winner in 2005.
Racing from trainer Dave Correll’s barn, under the guidance of
rider Jose Vega this racy mare had impressive wins in the Sam Houston
Derby, TQHA Classic Stakes, Rheudasil Handicap, Miss Houston Stakes and
the Gulf Coast Stakes along with running a well placed second in the
Lazy E Derby and game third in the Texas Classic Derby. Si Puede, a gutsy
little runner just recently ventured to New Mexico and won the Sunland
Park Fall Park Quarter Horse Derby in December and now has earned over
$262,520 in 2005 with 13 starts, 10 wins, a second and two thirds.
SURPRISINGLY
SPECIAL has been named the 2005 Accredited Texas Bred Champion
Three Year Old Gelding. Owned and bred by Bennie & Terri Jeter,
the Special Depth gelding ran most of his freshmen and sophomore campaigns
in New Mexico with a well placed finish in the 350 yard Ruidoso Overnite
Stakes. But it wasn’t until at the end of 2005 when Surprisingly
Special returned to Texas to the Judd Kearl shed row that his talent
was showcased. He turned in a stellar performance in his first race
back in Texas by a length and three quarters victory followed by impressive
second in the Grade I Texas Classic Derby against some of the toughest
three year olds in the nation including Texas Bred Champions First
Comment and Si Puede. His combined earning are now over $101,000 with
3 wins, 4 seconds and 2 thirds.
FIRST
COMMENT reigns as the 2005 Accredited Texas Bred Champion
Three Year Old Colt. The First Place Dash colt qualified for seven
graded stakes race in 2005 showing he is at the top of his class. He
was a finalist in the Bayer Legend East Challenge, Longhorn Derby,
TQHA Sires’
Cup Derby and the Firecracker Derby while being stakes placed in the
Sam Houston Derby and Dash For Cash Derby. The J W “Wes” Owens
homebred saved the best for last and captured the largest Derby in Texas,
the Grade I Texas Classic Derby and in dominating fashion. This awesome
runner who gives his all every time he steps on the track was trained
by Jeff Acuna and has over $316,000 in total earnings, a top speed index
of 102 with 10 wins, 3 seconds and 3 thirds. First Comment is also the
2005 AQHA Texas High Point Three Year Old Colt.
Just placed a well place third in the Grade I Championship At Sunland
Park against the toughest older horses in the nation.
The
2005 Accredited Texas Bred Champion Aged Mare honors belong to TEXAS
CHATTERBOX. The four year old Vital Sign mare turned in the
performance of a lifetime in 2005 for owner and breeder William A. Orr,
Jr. earning over $83,000 for the year. Texas Chatterbox had great triumphs
in the John Deere Texas Distaff Challenge at Sam Houston Race Park and
then in Grade I John Deere Distaff Challenge Championship at Los Alamitos
in California. Texas Chatterbox was a finalist in the Champions of Champions,
a feat on its own, and competed with super star runners like Ocean Runaway.
The Accredited Texas Bred was trained by William A. Orr, III in Texas
and Paul Jones while in California.
The
2005 Accredited Texas Bred Champion Aged Gelding honor is awarded to GRAY
INVASION. The multiple graded stakes winner was conditioned
by Jeff Acuna, raced in the silks of Claudio Aguilar and ran in 2005
against some of the toughest older horses in the country. The six year
old Chicks Beduino gelding set a new track record in the Grade III TQHA
550 Stakes at Sam Houston Race Park covering the 550 yards in :26.768.
This big gorgeous gray also won the Grade III Manor Downs Maturity and
turned a third place finish in the Grade II Sam Houston Classic. He ended
the year as a finalist in the Grade I Refrigerator Handicap at Lone Star
Park and now has lifetime earnings of over $229,888, a 110 speed index
and 11 wins, 4 seconds and 7 thirds.
FREDRICKSBURG receives
the honor of 2005 Accredited Texas Bred Champion Aged Stallion for owners
Jim and Marilyn Helzer. The four year old stallion has been a consistent
contender for three years but was lightly raced in 2005 with only 6 starts,
3 wins and 2 thirds. He turned in some of his best performances in 2005,
including the dead heat for the win against Vals Fortune in the Grade
I Refrigertor Handicap at Lone Star Park and winning the Grade I Championship
@ Sunland Park. Bred by Robert Gentry and trained by Heath Taylor the
Mr Jess Perry stallion also won the Grade III Classic Chevorlet Heartbeat
of America Handicap as well as a third place finishes in the TQHA Classic
Stakes and B. F. Phillips, Jr. Handicap and was a finalist in the MBNA
America Texas Challenge. Fredricksburg now has a lifetime earnings of
over $369,000 and a top speed index of 109.

LA JOLLA: Earned over $22,000 in stallion owner awards for
Robert Nunnally. The Son of Streakin Six will be a top contender for
years to come in the Texas breeding program.
MAKE
IT MY DAY sired by Jodys Glory is the Broodmare of the Year
earned nearly $4,000 in incentive money for her offsprings performance
in races in Texas. Top Runners include Make It A Runaway, Makeitmylovemoney
and Romeo La Jolla. The mare is owned by R C Running Horses. Alfred &
Melba have been longtime supports of the TQHA and Texas breeding.
EUSEVIO
HUITRON (CHEVO) is Owner Of The Year. Earned over $7,500 from
the Accredited Texas Bred Program. Top money earners Kathys Star Quest,
Kito Me and Memories On The Run.
