An accredited Texas-bred racehorse is any American Quarter Horse, registered with the AQHA that is foaled in Texas, is out of an accredited Texas broodmare, and sired by an accredited Texas stallion. Accredited Texas broodmares may be bred to stallions that are not accredited Texas stallions if the mare is bred back to an accredited Texas stallion. Every foal out of an accredited Texas broodmare is eligible to be Texas accredited if the broodmare is bred at least every other breeding to an accredited Texas stallion and those foals are foaled in Texas.

Updated in 2019, the rule deletes the requirement that in order to be an accredited Texas broodmare the mare must be permanently domiciled in Texas.  The mare must still breed to an accredited Texas stallion at least every other breeding and all foals must still be foaled in Texas.

Yes. You can accredit a horse before you have the original papers. However, your paperwork will be held in a pending file and NOT PROCESSED until you provide us with some documentation of the AQHA Registration Application. Send the original papers when you receive them to be stamped Accredited Texas Bred.

A broodmare must be bred to an Accredited Stallion at least every other breeding for all her foals to be eligible for accreditation. See ATB Rules →

Yes. As long as a broodmare is bred to an Accredited Stallion every other breeding.

No. An Accredited Texas Bred stallion will lose its breeding accreditation if it is domiciled in another state. The stallion must be reaccredited if it is moved back into Texas. See ATB Rules →

A breeder must accredit a broodmare as breeding stock before or during year of conception in order to receive Breeder Awards. See ATB Rules →

The Texas Racing Act mandates every licensed Texas racetrack must offer at least two races per day restricted to Accredited Texas Bred horses. Each racetrack also offers stakes races restricted to Accredited Texas Bred horses. Each time an accredited Texas-Bred earns a purse supplement, the breeder and stallion owner earn Texas-Bred awards.

A stallion must be accredited as breeding stock during or before year of conception and the annual Stallion Participation Fee must be paid during the year of conception. See ATB Rules & Fees →

You do not have to be a member, but members receive discounted prices on accreditation. You must be a current member to be eligible for Year-End Awards.

You must transfer the horse to your name through the Accredited Texas Bred Program. Complete the ATB transfer form; send a current copy of the horse’s papers with the appropriate fee. See ATB transfer form →

A Thoroughbred can be accredited as breeding stock if they have been registered with AQHA.

A horse must pass through the ring of the TQHA Yearling Sale in order to be eligible to run in the TQHA Sale Futurity.

No. A horse must be sired by an eligible stallion that participated in the TQHA Stallion Service Program, to be eligible to run in the Sires’ Cup Races.

The stallion’s donated breeding must be purchased through the TQHA Stallion Service Auction.

No. The Texas Classic Futurity & Derby are open races for any AQHA registered two or three year old respectively.
